[Exclusive Interview] PIAO Talks Anime Aesthetics, Pizza Party Vibes, and Taking the HITC Stage in LA

A World of Her Own

If you’ve been on the internet lately, you’ve probably stumbled into PIAO’s world. Known for her unique blend of dreamy visuals, anime-inspired storytelling, and genre-bending tracks like “Cardcaptor,” she’s not just another rising name in music—she’s building a universe. And now, she’s bringing it to life onstage at Head In The Clouds LA 2025.

This is PIAO’s first time performing at HITC LA, but she’s no stranger to the 88rising family. Whether it’s her collabs, personal style, or oddly perfect metaphors (girl in a robot suit crying about a hamster? We get it), she’s one of the most exciting artists to watch this year.

Who is PIAO?

PIAO is an LA-based artist whose music blends fiction, feeling, and futuristic softness. Her art lives at the intersection of heartfelt chaos and sparkly precision—where melody leads the way, and everything else follows.

The Interview

You’ve been releasing some really unique and genre-blending tracks like “Cardcaptor.” How would you describe your current sound, and what’s inspiring you creatively right now?

“I would describe my sound as a girl in a robot suit crying about her hamster not living long enough. A lot of things inspire me. I’m back in my reading bag so… I guess fiction is a big one for me right now.”

This is your first time performing at Head In The Clouds LA. How does it feel to be part of this year’s lineup, and what does this moment mean to you?

“I’ve been working with 88rising for a minute now. Honestly, this feels like end of school year pizza party. I get to be with all my friends and we get to be outside, running around, singing songs we’ve made. It’s pretty epic not gonna lie.”

A lot of fans are drawn to the anime-inspired visuals and storytelling in your music. What’s the process like when you’re building a concept—from lyrics to visuals?

“The concept usually stems from a piece of art I see or a feeling or a word. I almost always start with melody, then lyrics, and then I have a magical producer that does magic on the computer and brings my vision to life.”

You’ve got a growing fanbase discovering you through both music and aesthetic. What do you hope new listeners take away after seeing your set at HITC?

“That I am just a girl going through a lot of the same things as my audience. That it literally all has to work out and we’ll look back on any hardships fondly. We’re all in it together.”

What’s a dream collaboration you’d love to do in the future, either within 88rising or outside of it?

“I’d love to continue to work with my pookie Stephanie Poetri, more girl collabs. And continue to be part of the family.”

When you’re in LA, is there anything you’re hoping to try—whether it’s food, fashion, or places to explore?

“I’m based in LA now, but there’s endless ice cream and coffee shops… it’s a life sport.”

Lastly, do you have a message for fans who are excited to see you take the stage at HITC LA for the first time?

“Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. I can’t believe you’re braving the LA heat to support me and the other amazing artists. Thank you so much for coming and I will be fighting you for a spot to see GD and 2NE1.”

New Visual Chapter: “IMYSM” Music Video

As PIAO takes the stage at Head In The Clouds LA, she’s also dropped a music video that adds a powerful new layer to her story. The newly released IMYSM video isn’t just visually striking—it’s a concept she created herself to fit the EP’s narrative.

The result? A cinematic piece that hits different after hearing the songs live. Fans are already calling it “a masterpiece” and “incredibly beautiful,” with some even saying it helped them process their own grief or memories.
